Texas:
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi began his three-day visit to the US with an arrival in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, where he was warmly welcomed by members of the Indian diaspora and the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC).
The Congress leader shared pictures of his welcome address on social media and wrote, “I am truly delighted with the warm welcome I received in Dallas, Texas, USA from the Indian diaspora and members of the Indian Overseas Congress.”
“I look forward to having meaningful discussions and enlightening conversations during this visit that will further strengthen the bond between our two countries,” he added.
This is Rahul Gandhi's first trip to America since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The congressional leader will be in Dallas, Texas, on September 8 and in Washington, DC, on September 9 and 10.
Earlier, IOC President Sam Pitroda announced Rahul Gandhi's visit and said the Indian diaspora, including NRIs, technocrats, business leaders, students, media and even political leaders, are eager to welcome the Congress MP and look forward to interacting with him.
“There are a lot of events planned with different people because they are also interested in the states where the Congress party is ruling, especially the tech cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune. We are seeing a lot of interest in talking to the industry and the technology community,” he further informed.
“We look forward to a very successful visit and look forward to welcoming Rahul Gandhi to the US,” Pitroda said in closing remarks.
He also said that he was being 'bombarded' with questions from various quarters about Rahul Gandhi's US visit. With this video message, he apparently wanted to inform them about the Congress leader's short but much-awaited trip to the US.
It is notable that after the 2024 Lok Sabha results, Rahul Gandhi has created a good momentum and has managed to gain the support of the people with his stances on many issues of public importance. Political observers expect his US visit to be more newsworthy this time and create more controversy at home.
Rahul won the elections in two Lok Sabha constituencies – Rae Bareli and Wayanad. However, he chose to retain the former and leave the latter to his sister, Priyanka Gandhi.
In June this year, he was appointed Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) backed him.
