Los Angeles, California:
“There is a special place in hell for this man,” the California sheriff’s Merced County sheriff said of the suspect who kidnapped four members of a Sikh family of Indian descent, including an eight-month-old girl who was found dead in an orchard.
“There are no words at this time to describe the anger I feel and the futility of this incident,” Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said Wednesday night after authorities confirmed the deaths of four members of the family, who had been charged since Monday. missing.
“There is a special place in hell for this man,” Warnke said of suspect Jesus Manuel Salgado, who was convicted of armed robbery in 2005 and spent 11 years in prison.
The 48-year-old attempted suicide on Tuesday in the nearby town of Atwater after being arrested for the murder.
The sheriff said, while there’s no evidence at this time that another person was involved, “I still think by the time we’re done here, we’ll be able to tie up at least one other person. ” A farm worker called around 5:30 p.m. (local time) to report the family’s bodies, including an eight-month-old baby, whose kidnapping was caught on surveillance video.
Sheriff Warnke said that when detectives arrived at the scene, they determined the remains were those of eight-month-old Aroohi Dheri; her mother Jasleen Kaur, 27; her father Jasdeep Singh, 36; and her uncle Amandeep Singh, 39, originally from Harsi Pind in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, were abducted Monday from their newly opened trucking facility in Merced County, California.
The suspect attempted suicide on Tuesday in the nearby town of Atwater after being arrested for the murder.
Warnke, who declined to provide much information about the ongoing investigation, said investigators had spoken with Salgado, who was convicted in 2005 of armed robbery, which involved false prison terms.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect’s own family had contacted authorities, who reported that Salgado had admitted to being involved in the kidnapping.
“The suspect talks occasionally, based on his condition. And we still have investigators with the suspect and we’re extracting information from that,” Warnke said, adding that the investigation “now focused on this rotten son of a gun.” in jail”.
“I can tell you he’s been violent every time he’s even regained consciousness,” Warnke added, pointing out that doctors had sedated him because they didn’t want him to be “laying around.”
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said he was released from prison in 2015 and was released on parole three years later.
He was also convicted of possessing a controlled substance, the corrections office said.
The family’s relatives have been notified, the sheriff said, adding, “An entire family has been wiped out, and we still don’t know why.” Warnke added that there is currently no evidence that Salgado knew the family prior to the kidnapping.
“As of now, we think it was random,” said Deputy Alexandra Britton. “We have no evidence to prove otherwise.” Salgado has not yet been charged, according to DailyExpertNews News.
Sheriff Warnke said that after the kidnappings, a debit card belonging to one of the victims was used in Atwater, about 9 miles north of Merced, adding that the kidnapper was not demanding a ransom for what he said was a financially motivated crime.
The sheriff hoped the prosecutor would seek the death penalty for the suspect, who, in a chilling new video showing the family being kidnapped, took Jasdeep and Amandeep Singh away with their hands zipped together.
Moments later, the video shows the kidnapper leading Jasleen and her eight-month-old baby, Aroohi, out of the building in a truck.
Family members told KXTV-TV that the office of Unison Trucking Inc, the family-owned company, had only opened about a week earlier.
