London:
A British Kashmiri professor of politics and international relations at the London University of Westminster has claimed that its overseas citizenship of India (OCI) has been canceled by the Indian authorities due to alleged “anti-India activities”.
Nitasha Kaul went to social media on Sunday to post details of the communication that has been received from the Indian government, which accuses her that she was motivated by “malice and full contempt for facts or history”.
It follows her earlier reports from February when the academic was returned by being refused access to India to allegedly attend a conference in Bengaluru.
“Know that the arresting of academics in India for speaking against hatred is closely linked to removing access to Land and Family for academics outside India,” said Nitasha Kaul in her post on X.
“The idea is to send a signal – don't dare to challenge us and do not dare to analyze what is going on to bring the audience out,” she said.
According to the OCI rules laid down by the High Commission of India in London, the Indian government can cancel an OCI registration of a person on certain specific grounds, including “if it is satisfied … The overseas citizen of India has dissatisfied with the Constitution of India as established by the law”.
A fragment of the cancellation document that is supposedly received from the Indian government has been accused of “countless elusive writings, speeches and journalistic activities on various international forums and on social media platforms” that focus on “India and its institutions about the affairs of India's sovereignty”.
Nitasha Kaul, director of the center for the study of democracy at the University of Westminster, has convicted the withdrawal of its OCI as a “evil loyalty, vengeful, cruel example of transnational repression” and claimed that she has been punished for “scientific work on anti-minority and anti-democratic policy”.
The High Commission of India in London has been approached for a statement.
