Iran launched missiles at Israel as alarms sounded across the country and civilians rushed to take shelter. Iran said the attack on Israel was in response to the killing of the Guard commander and other leaders.
The Israeli military later sounded “all clear” and said the Israelis were free to leave their shelters. It promised retaliation against Iran “at the place and time we determine.”
The Iranian Guard, meanwhile, threatened “crushing strikes” if Israel responded to the rocket attack.
Earlier, the Israeli military had announced that any ballistic missile attack from Iran was expected to be widespread and ordered the public to take shelter in safe rooms in case of an attack.
The rocket firing came after Israeli forces launched ground attacks on Lebanon, marking the biggest escalation of regional warfare since fighting erupted in Gaza a year ago.
