Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered two planes to be sent to Amsterdam to evacuate Israeli football fans who were attacked by an alleged pro-Palestinian gang on Thursday evening.
The fans had traveled to the Netherlands to watch the Europa League match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax Amsterdam.
The attack began after Maccabi Tel Aviv's loss to Ajax, with attackers targeting Israelis at several locations in the city, chanting “Free Palestine” and shouting insults in Arabic.
At least ten Israelis were injured in the violence, and some reports suggest two people are still missing. In addition, attackers stole passports of some of the targeted individuals.
Israel's Foreign Ministry has advised its citizens in the Netherlands to stay indoors and not go out, while Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has asked Dutch authorities to help Israelis reach the airport safely.
Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir condemned the attacks, describing them as an act of anti-Semitism, in which Israelis were punched, kicked, run over and even thrown into the river.
Former Israeli special envoy Noa Tishby claimed a fan was forced to say “Free Palestine” before being released.
In response to the violence, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu called on Dutch authorities to act quickly to ensure the safety of Israelis. He called the incident 'serious'.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett also called for immediate action, urging authorities to take immediate action to prevent further damage.
The Israeli embassy in the United States stated that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were attacked as they left the stadium.
