New York:
If Kamala Harris wins the US election, she has made clear one change that will surely come to the White House: the first president in eight years who actually likes a beer. Unlike teetotalers Donald Trump and Joe Biden, Harris revealed on TV Tuesday night that she enjoys the occasional brew.
The Democrat opened a can of Miller High Life at the urging of host Stephen Colbert.
“Elections, I think, are won by feeling, because one of the old principles is that they just want someone they can have a beer with,” he said.
“So, do you want to have a beer with me so I can tell people what it's like?”
The comic revealed that showrunners had checked in advance what to serve “because we can't just serve a drink to the Vice President of the United States.”
Grabbing the can of Miller High Life — a 4.6 percent ABV beer whose makers say its “easy-drinking flavor epitomizes the American lager category” — Harris revealed that she had recently had booze with her husband, Doug Emhoff.

“Okay, the last time I had a beer was at a baseball game with Doug,” she said, opening the can and adding, “Cheers.”
“There you go. It's cold. From the beautiful city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin,” Colbert said, referring to one of the seven swing states that could decide the 2024 presidential election.
“The champagne of beers,” Harris replied, quoting the drink's marketing slogan.
The appearance was part of a media blitz that also included Harris joining the hosts of “The View” and doing a lengthy interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM.
Like that media, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was a friendly environment where in-depth questions would never be asked.
And Colbert's frequent mocking of Trump amplified Harris' message.
When he asked her about Trump's 2020 loss — which the billionaire still refuses to accept — she took the opportunity to taunt her opponent.
“You know, when you lost millions of jobs, you lost manufacturing, you lost car factories, you lost the election, what does that make you? A loser,” she said.
“This is what happens when I drink beer,” she laughed.
