A 39-year-old man of Indian origin has been jailed for 16 weeks and placed on the sex offenders register for seven years after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a woman during a train journey from Birmingham to London.
Mukhan Singh, from the Sandwell area of the West Midlands region of England, was arrested for the on-the-road crime at Leamington station in 2021. He entered his guilty plea at Warwick Crown Court last month and was recently sentenced.
“This was a brutal and targeted attack on a young woman who was traveling alone and had every right to have a safe journey,” said Detective Inspector Harris (DC) Harris, the investigating officer in the case.
“Instead, she was abused by Singh, who then had the audacity to claim during his police interrogation that she ‘wanted it’. I am pleased that the court has imposed a custodial sentence, giving Singh sufficient time to think about it. are unacceptable actions,” he said.
According to a local media report in ‘Warwickshire World’, the court heard how the victim, a woman in her 20s, was on a train traveling from Birmingham Moor Street station to London Marylebone in September 2021 when Singh started staring at her. from a nearby table chair. Singh later sat next to the victim in the aisle seat and blocked her before sexually assaulting her.
The victim recorded footage of Singh as he prepared to leave the train at Leamington Spa before describing what had happened to a member of staff. Singh was arrested at the station and the police were called. He was arrested by officers at the station and taken to the police station.
After his arrest and during his police interrogation, the suspect claimed that the victim “wanted something to be done to her.”
“We take all reports of sexual offenses seriously and will support victims throughout our investigations as we work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice,” DC Harris added.
