Facebook owner Meta has announced an ambitious plan to build the longest submarine cable network that will reach five large continents and comprises more than 50,000 km, which is longer than the circumference of the earth. Namynchronized project Waterworth, it will be the longest underwater cable project in the world and would offer 'leading connectivity' and help support artificial intelligence (AI) projects in the US, India, Brazil, South Africa and other important regions.
“Waterworth Project will be a multi-billion dollar, multi-year investment to strengthen the scale and reliability of the world's digital highways by opening three new Oceanic corridors with the abundant, high speed connectivity that is needed to AI-innovation about the Stimulating whole world, “meta,” meta said.
Substitute cable projects are the backbone of the global digital infrastructure, accounting for more than 95 percent of intercontinental traffic over the world oceans. Meta said it would lay the cable system up to 7,000 meters deep and use improved funeral techniques in risky error areas “such as shallow water near the coast, to prevent damage caused by shipankers and other hazards”.
“This project will enable greater economic cooperation, make digital inclusion and open opportunities for technological development in these regions possible,” it added.

The project specifically states India, which has seen an incredible development of digital infrastructure in the past decade.
“In India, where we have already seen considerable growth and investments in digital infrastructure, Waterworth will help to speed up this progress and to support the country's ambitious plans for its digital economy.”
The project was particularly part of the statement by the American joint leaders released earlier this month, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US.
Meta also hopes to bring about a revolution at the pace of AI development with the launch of the Waterworth Project.
“With Waterworth Project we can ensure that the benefits of AI and other emerging technologies are available to everyone, regardless of where they live or work.”
