Floodwaters are beginning to recede in the Hudson Valley, but officials are still struggling to address the damage done by Sunday’s torrential rain that poured over the region and crippled rail lines.
The Metro-North Railroad restored service to two stations on the Hudson Line, Cortlandt and Peekskill, for the first time since Sunday afternoon Tuesday morning.
But Metro-North service remains suspended on the Hudson Line north of Peekskill and on the Harlem Line north of Southeast as tracks there, rendered impassable by debris and flood water, continue to be repaired. Limited bus service is operating along the affected portion of the Hudson Line.
Amtrak service between New York City and Albany, which uses the Hudson Line tracks, also remains suspended while Metro-North continues to work on the line, whose tracks run primarily along the east bank of the river.
Crews have been at work since Sunday evening, Metro-North said in a statement. Passengers can check the Metro-North and Amtrak websites for updates.
