Islamabad:
The swearing-in of the new Pakistani federal cabinet has been postponed after President Arif Alvi – intended to take the oath of office – suddenly went on leave on Monday due to apparent “inconvenience”.
The federal cabinet would be sworn in on Tuesday.
Now, according to sources familiar with the development, the new cabinet is likely to be sworn in on Tuesday or Wednesday, ARY News reports.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has 14 ministers and PPP 11 members in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s federal cabinet.
The PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb had previously confirmed that the cabinet has decided and that will be announced on Tuesday. “It has been a lengthy process of cabinet consultations between the allied parties, which has been completed and will be announced shortly,” added PML-N leader.
Earlier this month, Dr. Alvi fell ill just hours before the swearing in of the country’s 23rd Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif. According to his Twitter, the president is currently experiencing “discomfort” and has been examined by a doctor.
“The doctor examined him thoroughly and advised him to rest for a few days,” the president’s tweet read.
President Alvi went on leave on Monday without further explanation.
