In a great shame for Pakistan, a senior diplomat was refused access to the US despite a valid visa and necessary documents, the news reported, a Pakistani media outlet. KK Wagan, the ambassador of Pakistan in Turkmenistan, was stopped by American immigration on his arrival in Los Angeles and deported.
The report quoted a public official in the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the report said that the envoy had an “immigration trend”.
Mr. Wagan, a seasoned diplomat, was on a personal trip to Los Angeles. The report said he had a valid American visa and other travel documents.
Mr Wagan stopped immigration authorities after he arrived in Los Angeles with officials who marked concern about the diplomatic protocol. The American officials marked “controversial visa references” by Mr Wagan, although there is no clarity about the specific concerns, the report said that diplomatic sources quoted.
He was then asked to return from where he had arrived in Los Angeles.
Pakistani Minister of Foreign Affairs Ishaq Dar and other senior officials were informed of the issue according to the report. Mr. Wagan will probably be called to Islamabad to give a statement about the incident.
GeoTV, another Pakistani outlet valve, said that their Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Mr. Wagan had a private visit to Los Angeles and that the case is being thoroughly investigated.
The incident is an important cause of shame for Islamabad in the midst of reports that US President Donald Trump would soon impose a travel ban on the country that is effectively stopping Pakistani's access in the US.
