Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Sri Lanka early next month to complete agreements reached during the visit of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to Delhi last year, a minister said on Saturday.
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath made the statement as he responded to a question about the debate about the budget assignment in parliament here.
“We have maintained a close relationship with our neighbor India. Our first diplomatic visit was to India, where we achieved various similarities about bilateral cooperation,” said Herath.
“Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive here at the beginning of April,” he added. Herath said that during the visit of Mr Modi, various new memoranda of insights will be signed, in addition to the opening of the Sampur Solar Power Station.
In 2023, the state power Ceylon Electricity Board and the NTPC from India came in to build a 135 MW of the solar power plant in the Sampur Town or Eastern Trincomalee district.
Herath said that the goodwill policy of the National People's Power (NPP) has resulted in the goodwill policy compared to India in many benefits for the island nation, including various current Indian projects.
“We will remain neutral in our foreign policy without taking a party while we work to maintain the national interest,” said Herath.
This will be Mr. Modi's fourth visit to the island nation since 2015.
