The wedding of King Charles III and Princess Diana took place on July 29, 1981 in a grand royal ceremony and an extravagant celebration took place in the United Kingdom. Recently, a slice of the royal wedding cake was put up for sale at auction and sold for £170 (Rs 15,864).
According to the website of auctioneer Dore and Rees, the pie slice had a pre-sale estimate of Rs 28,000 or £300. While prices were expected to rise, it sold for Rs 15,864, well below its estimated price.
The 41-year-old slice of pie was kept by a guy named Nigel Ricketts, who worked as a French polisher and furniture restorer at Windsor Castle from 1980-1985. He died earlier this year, according to The New York Post.
It is believed that the slice came from the fruitcake in the center which had five layers and was a whopping five feet long. The fruit cake was one of 23 official wedding cakes prepared for the royal wedding. The slice of cake in the box has “Buckingham Palace” and the wedding date stamped on it.
In 2014, a slice of the same cake was sold for Rs 91,772 or £990.

As reported by the AfterRicketts and other members of the royal household joined forces to purchase a writing desk for Charles and Diana as a wedding gift. The now King Charles III seemed overjoyed with the present. He wrote a thank-you note to all royal staffers, which was also auctioned off by Dore and Rees.
The royal wedding of Princess Diana and King Charles III was known as the “wedding of the century.” However, their marriage only lasted a little over a decade and the couple separated in 1992, four years before legally divorcing. Princess Diana died in a car accident in 1997.
