A private commercial helicopter with six people on board, including five Mexican nationals, went missing near Nepal’s Mount Everest area today, aviation authorities said.
The Manang Air helicopter 9N-AMV took off at 10:04 AM from Surke Airport in Solukhumbu district to Kathmandu. However, it suddenly lost contact at an altitude of more than 12,000 feet at 10:13 a.m., Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) manager Gyanendra Bhul said.
The passengers on board the helicopter are reportedly five Mexican nationals, whose identities have not yet been released, and pilot senior captain Chet B Gurung, the Himalayan Times newspaper reported.
“It has been reported that the Manang Air helicopter has no contact, there is no contact with the tower, when it reached Lamjura pass, it was reported that the helicopter only received a ‘hello’ message on Viber, the search is underway TIA spokesman Teknath Sitaula told the news website My Republica.
Established in 1997, Manang Air is a helicopter airline based in Kathmandu. It has used helicopters in commercial air transport within the Nepalese territory under the regulation of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
The company offers chartered services and focuses on personalized services such as adventure flights, helicopter excursions or expedition work.
