A teenager in the United States wins hearts on social media for saving her dog’s life during Kentucky’s flash floods. A photo of Chloe Adams cradling her dog while sitting on the roof of a house surrounded by floodwaters is going viral.
Many areas of Kentucky were hit by flash flooding caused by torrential rains on Thursday, killing 16 people.
Mrs. Adams, 17, was alone at her home with her trusted companion, Sandy, the dog she’s had since she was a toddler. The nightmarish rain quickly flooded the drains, and the water began flowing through the kitchen tiles and surrounding her home, according to DailyExpertNews.
“There was water as far as I could see,” she told the outlet. “I had a complete panic attack.”
But she was able to save not only herself but also Sandy by putting the dog in a floating container and swimming to a nearby roof. She waited hours for help to arrive.
Her father Terry Adams shared a post about her safety on Facebook on Friday, calling her a “hero”.
Sharing a photo of the teen surrounded by floodwaters, he wrote: “My daughter is safe and sound tonight. She rescued her dog by putting her in a container that would float and then swimming with her to a neighboring roof. “
“She waited for hours to be rescued. She’s a hero. I love you, Chloe. You’re just amazing. Thank you, Larry; words are not enough. We lost everything today… all but the most important is,” he added.
The post has received over 10,000 likes and about 18,000 shares on Facebook so far. Numerous users flooded the comment section, appreciating Ms. Adams’ bravery.
“So glad she’s safe. Let us know if there’s anything we can do. Prayers for all of you,” one user wrote.
