A Wizzluchtvlucht from London to Tirana was delayed almost an hour and a half after the cabin crew was wrongly accused of stealing the phone from a guard, which fueled chaos on board.
The flight, planned to start from London Luton Airport at 3.10 pm on Friday, was stopped after the airline staff claimed that CCTV images showed that a passenger took the missing phone. According to a report from PeopleThe crew informed passengers that the flight could not take off until the phone was found.
An announcement that was made before departure, said: “We know the phone is on board. We cannot leave that there is something that does not belong to this flight. This is a security problem.”
One passenger, a 28-year-old who asked for anonymity, criticized the handling of the situation and said: “You would think that airports would be safer and this would be resolved quickly. You are not even safe on Luton Airport, somewhere where you assume it is a safe space.”
Almost an hour later, another announcement insisted on the alleged perpetrator to voluntarily come forward and warned that CCTV images were still being assessed. The police were eventually called to the plane to help with the investigation.
After a long impasse and no telephone, however, the crew finally admitted that there was no missing item on board. “There is no item in this plane. We are now happy to handle our security position,” the crew told frustrated passengers before they resume preparations for taking off.
The flight finally left with a delay of 88 minutes.
