The Israeli military says Hamas has taken 199 hostages in cross-border attacks

The Israeli military increased this number on Monday to 199 people confirmed to have been abducted by Hamas to the Gaza Strip in the militants’ cross-border attacks that have sparked a devastating war.

“We have informed the families of 199 hostages,” military spokesman Daniel Hagari told a media briefing, revising an earlier figure of 155 prisoners.
