Trump said it was a mistake for Moscow to be driven out of the group.
Washington:
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he would like Russia to return to the group of seven countries, and said it was a mistake for Moscow to be deported.
Russia had been a member of the G7 Club of industrialized democracies, then known as the G8, until Moscow was excluded after the annexation of the Krim region in Ukraine in 2014.
“I would like them back. I think it was a mistake to throw them away. Look, it's not a matter of liking Russia or not loving Russia. It was the G8,” Trump said in white House when he announced new American mutual rates.
“I said,” What am you doing? You – all you're talking about is Russia and they should be sitting at the table. ” I think Putin would like to be back “
There was no immediate response to Trump's comments from Canada, which is chairman of the G7 this year.
