Washington:
The interior department of the Trump government said on Friday that it had officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico in the Gulf of America and the Alaskan Peak Denali to Mount McKinley.
US President Donald Trump ordered the name changes as part of a flurry of executive actions hours after his taking office, making a campaign blade good.
“As prescribed by the president, the Gulf of Mexico will now be officially known as the Gulf of America and the highest peak in North America will again bear the name Mount McKinley,” the interior department said in a statement.
The towering peak of Alaska was previously called Mount McKinley, in honor of former US President William McKinley, but was renamed Denali – which means 'long' in the indigenous language of Koyukon – in 1975 at the request of the state.
“These changes confirm the dedication of the nation to maintain the extraordinary heritage of the United States and to ensure that future generations of Americans celebrate the legacy of his heroes and historical assets,” the department said.
In his inaugural speech on Monday, Trump said that McKinley, a Republican who was president from 1897 to 1901, “made our country very rich through rates and talent – he was a natural businessman.” McKinley was head of the US in an expansive era and won Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico as areas. Hawaii later became an American state.
Although Trump can lead the US Geological Survey to change what the Gulf of Mexico indicates, it is unlikely that such a name change will be recognized internationally.
Mexico, which, like the US, has a long coastline that the water -body cirkelt, has said that the name of the Gulf of Mexico is internationally recognized and is used as a maritime navigation reference that goes back hundreds of years.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum previously suggested Jokes Noord -America, including the United States, renamed “Mexican America” - a historical name used on an early map of the region.
