Islamabad:
A vehicle in Imran Khan’s convoy overturned on Saturday as Pakistan’s chief of Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was on his way to Islamabad to face court in the Toshakhana case, ARY News reported.
Earlier today, Imran Khan left for Islamabad from his residence in Zaman Park in Lahore.
The region is reportedly placed under heavy security ahead of Imran Khan’s visit to the Islamabad judicial complex to maintain peace and order and prevent anything untoward from happening.
On Friday, the Pakistani government moved the hearing of the Toshakhana case from the extra session court to a relatively safer judicial complex due to Imran Khan’s security concerns, Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper reported.
Mr Khan is set to appear in the case before Additional Session Judge Zafar Iqbal after he issued warrants for the former prime minister’s arrest who was not released on bail after regularly skipping court dates due to “security threats” from his lawyer.
On 14 March, when the Islamabad police traveled to Lahore to arrest Imran Khan in accordance with the court’s instructions, they were met with resistance; as a result, more than 60 police officers from Islamabad and Punjab were injured, and several PTI employees were also injured, Geo News reported.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan also received protective bail from the Lahore High Court (LHC) in nine cases.
Bail was approved for five cases in Islamabad and three cases in Lahore. Imran Khan secured bail in the cases filed in Lahore till March 27, while protective bail in five Islamabad cases was approved till March 24.
