Washington:
The Biden administration “will not hesitate” to impose more sanctions on Russia and North Korea if they reach new arms deals, the US State Department said on Wednesday.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller issued the warning during a briefing in response to questions about the meeting in Russia between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
“We have already taken a number of actions to sanction entities that brokered arms sales between North Korea and Russia and we will not hesitate to impose additional sanctions if necessary,” Miller said.
It was worrying that Russia and North Korea are discussing closer cooperation that could violate UN Security Council resolutions, he said.
“To see what appears to be increased cooperation and likely military transfers is quite troubling and could potentially violate multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions,” Miller said.
