MAHASHIVRATRI 2023: Mahashivratri is celebrated all over India today on February 18. The festival in honor of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati is also seen as a festival of their reunion. On this occasion, people pray to the Shivling and present offerings such as Bel leaves, honey, milk and cottage cheese to worship the Lord. Applying vermilion to the Shivling is also virtuous. What is Panchamrit?
On Mahashivratri, devotees offer Panchamrit to God, which is later distributed to the devotees as prasad. Panchamrit is an important prasad used in various pujas and said to be auspicious. The Panchamrit contains 5 ingredients that are easily available in every Indian household. It is also a healthy drink that purifies the body and provides benefits in several ways.

The word Panchamrit is a combination of Pancha (5) and Amrit (nectar of Gods). It is believed that the drink originated from the Samudra Manthan. The five ingredients used to make this drink, when mixed in the right amount, increase its quality and give better results. It is also said to have medicinal values that heal and nourish the human body to boost immunity. It also promotes skin and hair complexion.
How to make Panchamrit?
The ingredients used to make Panchamrit are curd, milk, sugar, honey and ghee. It is called the potions of Gods. You will need 5 tablespoons of cottage cheese, 1 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of ghee and 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl and garnish the prasad with Tulsi leaves. In the Panchamrit, milk represents purity and honey adds sweetness. Ghee is for victory and sugar is for luck while the curd is for prosperity and happiness.
