In cricket, the run-out at the non-striker’s end is currently legal, but still controversial. Every time an attempt is made to take out a player on the non-striker’s end, controversy ensues. Last year, India’s Deepti Sharma’s run-out of Charlie Dean at the non-striker’s end during an ODI at Lord’s gained a lot of traction. Even then, the spirit of cricket was questioned. An almost similar incident took place at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday.
In the second ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand, in the 46th over of the latter innings, the hosts’ bowler Hasan Mahmud removed the bails at the non-striker’s end, while Ish Sodhi drove too far back. Even though it was out, referee Marais Erasmus sent it up for the third referee. Sodhi even started sarcastically clapping and started walking. But then Bangladesh captain Litton Das spoke to Erasmus and called Sodhi back. The two involved – Sodhi and Mahmud – embraced it.
Ish Sodhi was taken out at the non-striker’s end by Hasan Mahmud. The third referee checked and called OUT! But when Sodhi wanted to walk out, skipper Litton Das and Hasan Mahmud called him back. What a beautiful scene! Beautiful spirit of the game. The hug at the end was great… pic.twitter.com/GvrpjXcJwB

Hasan Mahmud beat Sodhi in the non-striker end as he gave too much support.
The third referee says it’s “out”.
Then Bangladesh decides to call him back and Sodhi hugs Hasan Mahmud.

Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin, who had also dismissed Jos Buttler during the 2019 Indian Premier League at the non-striker’s end, had given an interesting take on a batsman’s run-out at the non-striker’s end after the Deepti Sharma- incident.
Taking to his YouTube channel, Ashwin spoke about the subject in detail and before directly speaking about the incident, the off-spinner said, “In the beginning the whole world saw it like that. But now most of them have started realizing that the bowlers have not committed any crime there. Many of them have started asking why you ask questions to the innocent instead of asking the person who should be guilty. Only a certain section of people seem to have a problem with this. “
“In my opinion, they always play the victim card. But whenever something new happens, there will be some resistance to change from a few people and that is understandable,” he added.
Talking further about the incident, Ashwin said, “Yes, I am talking about the run-out at the non-striker’s end done by Deepti Sharma in which Charlie Dean was dismissed. I have spoken enough on this subject. So let me be short and sweet today. Risk versus reward. Just as a batsman knows when he steps out of the crease against a spinner or a pacer, a wicketkeeper can dismiss him by stumping. Likewise, a non-aggressor must also know that he can be rejected. -get out legitimately if they continue to step out of the crease and take up that extra yard.”
“We have to teach this to the children from an early age. Because in today’s world of competitive cricket, I spoke about this during the Ahmedabad Test match when the issue of the pitch came up about what was a good pitch. I told ‘don’t have control over the stories’.
Because a certain portion of people consciously choose to teach others how to think about a certain thing. They control their stories. There are many articles on this exact topic. In fact, I see this as a bowler’s revolution,” he stated.
