Kolkata Knight Riders' unbeaten run in the IPL 2024 finally came to an end as the Shreyas Iyer-led side were comprehensively defeated by Chennai Super Kings on Monday. The KKR batters, who have been quite impressive in the competition so far, failed to deliver their usual performances and the side could only score 137/9 in 20 overs. KKR batters opted for their trademark aggressive approach but with the Chennai pitch assisting the bowlers, Ravindra Jadeja and Tushar Deshpande took two wickets each to give CSK the advantage. After the match, a fan on social media wondered whether KKR should have changed their approach and dealt someone a more 'selfish' knock for the team.
“KKR is full of big hitters and no one played for their personal milestone today. Still, I can't understand why they scored only 137 today. By the way, a selfish 70(50) could have taken KKR to 160+,” the fan wrote.

Former New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan, who won the IPL title with Mumbai Indians, disagreed with the fan's analysis and felt that KKR should stick to the strategy that has worked for them. He asked them to continue their fearless approach and not resort to a more selfish strategy.
“Sometimes you shoot for the stars and land on the moon. No biggie – their formula has worked so far, no need to get selfish,” McClenaghan replied on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer deconstructed their first defeat of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings.
On Monday, Ravindra Jadeja led the bowling attack for the hosts, laying the foundation for an extensive seven-wicket haul for CSK on a Chepauk track that remained true to form and fell to the slower side.
After losing the wicket of Philip Salt on the very first ball of the innings, KKR managed to end the powerplay with a score of 56/1.
After that point, KKR struggled to adapt to the surface and toiled hard to put points on the board.
“Personally, I feel we fell short in assessing the wicket. We were phenomenal in the powerplay but after that we couldn't capitalize, we lost consecutive wickets. We weren't able to assess the conditions as quickly as possible. completely changed after the powerplay and scoring runs from this wicket was not easy,” Iyer said after the match.
