Hyderabad:
There is no need for population control as the country has already reached a replacement rate, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said on Wednesday, responding to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s comment about population policies.
In a tweet, Mr Owaisi said: “If Hindus and Muslims have ‘the same DNA’, where is the imbalance?” Population control is not necessary as we have already reached a replacement rate. The care is an aging population and unemployed young people who cannot support the elderly. Muslims have the strongest decline in fertility.”
Speaking at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Dussehra meeting in Nagpur today, Mr Bhagwat said India should have a population policy prepared after extensive thought and should apply equally to all communities.
The RSS chief said community imbalances are an important topic and should not be ignored.
Mr Owaisi further said: “For Mohan, it is the annual day of dog whistles and hate speech. Spreading fear about ‘population imbalance’ has led to genocide, ethnic cleansing and hate crimes all over the world. Kosovo was created after a genocide on Albanian Muslims by Serbian nationalists.”
