Opening
noda
After four years on 6 West 28th Street, this Japanese omakase restaurant, which was awarded one star in the 2021 Michelin Guide, has moved to a slightly larger location. In addition to 10 seats in a richly decorated sushi bar, there are four tables in a lounge. The new restaurant has a binchotan grill for its chef, Shigeyuki Tsunoda, whose 20- to 22-course tasting menu costs $315. For the opening, on New Year’s Eve, the partners – David Hess, Justin Hauser and Aiden Carty – are planning a $950 blowout featuring cocktails, Japanese whiskeys and 20 to 22 courses paired with champagnes, including Krug, Dom Ruinart and Dom Pérignon. (Prices include service but exclude VAT.) An intimate cocktail spot, Bar Noda, will be added in the spring.

Benno
Chef Jonathan Benno’s signature restaurant, which was awarded a Michelin star in 2021, has closed permanently; after a Covid-related shutdown, it was reopened from September 15 to December 15. From Friday, Mr. Benno will also be leaving Leonelli Bakery and Bar Benno, his two other locations in the Evelyn hotel. “The pandemic has changed the landscape of this industry in ways we could never have imagined,” he said in a statement, adding that the crisis “tested our wits, strengthened our ties and required a serious re-evaluation of the way things were done in restaurants, which led to his decision to move on. He has not shared his future plans. The Bastion Collection and Triumph Hotels, who own and operate the hotel, will continue to run Leonelli Bakery and the renamed Evelyn Bar .
