Islamabad:
Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan has said his wife, Bushra Bibi, was given food mixed with 'toilet cleaner', Pakistan-based The Express Tribune reported.
During the hearing of the P190 million corruption case at Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi on Friday, Imran Khan told Judge Nasir Javed Rana that additional walls had been erected in the courtroom, leading to an atmosphere akin to a closed court.
He said that Dr. Asim Yousaf, the chief medical officer of Shaukat Khanum Hospital, had suggested that Bushra Bibi's tests be conducted at Shifa International Hospital. However, he added that the prison administration was adamant about conducting the test at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan said toilet cleaner was mixed in Bushra Bibi's food and caused daily stomach irritation, as reported by The Express Tribune.
Imran Khan informed the court that toilet cleaner was mixed in Bushra Bibi's food, causing her health to deteriorate due to daily stomach irritation.
The court advised Imran Khan not to hold 'press conferences' during the hearings. In response, the PTI founder stated that his statements had been misquoted and he spoke to reporters to clarify them, The Express Tribune reported.
The court emphasized the importance of decorum and suggested addressing the media after the hearing. In response, Khan said the prison administration removed the media from the courtroom after the hearing, the report said. He also urged the court to allow him to interact with reporters for 10 minutes after the hearing.
Earlier on April 15, Bushra Bibi filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) asking the court to conduct her check-ups and medical tests at Shaukat Khanum Hospital or any other private hospital of her choice to investigate whether she was poisoned used to be. through contaminated food, Pakistan-based Dawn reported.
In her petition, Bushra Bibi said she suffers from heartburn, sore throat and mouth and believes this is a result of eating toxic meals.
Imran Khan's wife said she was poisoned and subjected to psychological torture at her Banigala residence, which has been declared a sub-jail, according to the Dawn report.
Moreover, she claimed that spy cameras were installed in several places in the room where she was locked up. She said there is only one lady in the sub-jail while the rest of the staff are male and she feels uncomfortable in such an environment.
According to the Dawn report, the petitioner said she was not given sufficient time to meet her family members and lawyers. She urged the authorities to ensure the protection of her fundamental rights.
