Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will miss the Pakistan tour and the first few games of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to his wedding next month. Maxwell told Fox Sports that the clash was inevitable due to schedule changes. He is one of the retained players of Royal Challengers Bangalore alongside Virat Kohli and Mohammad Siraj. “Originally when I organized the dates with CA there was a two week gap where I could have it,” Maxwell told Sri Lanka in Canberra after the third T20.
“So once I figured that out, I was pretty happy that I wouldn’t be missing out on any series. And then I got to the [CA] contract meeting midway through last year and they said well this is [when] the Pakistani series [is on] and I thought that obviously has changed since the last conversation we had.”
The IPL is expected to start in the last week of March and a limited overs tour of Pakistan is scheduled for March 29.
The Australian duo of pacer Kane Richardson and spinner Adam Zampa had left India amid the devastating COVID-19 wave before the IPL was finally suspended last year.
Both bowlers had no takers in the IPL mega auctions held last week.
Richardson was more surprised that Zampa went unsold.
“I was definitely more shocked for him. To be honest, when we left early last year under the circumstances, I remember having a conversation with him.
“I said to him, look, this can come back and bite us, and at that point it wasn’t a priority for us to be there. We wanted to go back to Australia.” “So I think there would be some sort of buyers who would be pretty wary of picking us up, thinking we weren’t coming back. I definitely think that’s a factor,” Richardson said.
The right arm pacer had missed the 2020 IPL due to the birth of his child. He said he understands why the IPL teams have not bid for him, but he has not spoken to any of them.
“I’m just talking about what I think would be a factor in it. I don’t know. I’ve never had a dialogue with a franchise or anyone saying that would be the case. But I don’t think I did not attend the birth of my son the year before either.

“So my reputation is probably that I haven’t gone in recent years, so obviously it’s not something I am.
“I try to play as much cricket as I can. But I think the conditions in the last few IPLs have kept me from going. But it’s not a reputation I want,” he added.
