National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has teamed up with Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) to train 18,000 students in automotive jobs over three years. These students will be trained in five positions including general technician, body and paint technician, service consultant, sales consultants and call center agents.
Through the Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP), the focus will be on making students employable. Aimed at generating talented and technically skilled professionals for the automotive industry, T-TEP is highly aligned with Skill India’s mission and associated with 56 ITI, polytechnic colleges in 21 states so far, NSDC said. “Currently, more than 10,000 students have been trained and 70 percent of students work in various car companies,” it claimed.
As part of this initiative, ASDC will identify the institute as per the requirements and Toyota will support the institute with the latest curriculum covering automotive fundamentals, safety, values and basic soft skills. In addition, the company will provide e-learning content, engines, transmissions, exercise kits, and also train the institute’s faculty. ASDC would provide support in improving infrastructure and ensure student education.
On this occasion, the union minister of state Rajeev Chandrasekhar for the Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said: “Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s initiative, in collaboration with NSDC and ASDC, to establish skills development centers across the country targeting with a special focus on rural areas will have a great impact in making the students highly educated, employable and future-ready.This effort is aligned with the Government of India’s Skill India Mission.The Government is committed to encouraging, supporting and collaborating with industry partners such as Toyota by providing them with a platform that will enhance their efforts to bridge the existing skills gap and help develop a workforce that meets global standards.”
“The automotive sector is an important pillar of the Indian economy and offers huge opportunities in the manufacturing economy over the next 5-6 years. India can also be the key pole for the future of the automotive sector in India, creating huge skills opportunities,” the minister added.
Ved Mani Tiwari, COO and Officiating CEO, NSDC, praised the initiative, saying: “The automotive industry is booming and since 2006, T-TEP has become a benchmark for delivering automotive training, bringing tremendous benefits to the automotive service industry and society. in general.. By cooperating with TKM and ASDC, NSDC will not only be able to build a highly skilled technical workforce, with better career prospects in the auto service industry, but also enable young people to earn a decent income by providing them with employment opportunities. This partnership will also encourage other automotive players to take a step forward to make India a Skill Capital of the World.”
