The Supreme Court refused to hear a plea seeking postponement of the Chartered Accountant (CA) exams conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). This hearing took place on Monday as several students had requested that the exams be rescheduled to another date due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The CA exams will be conducted from May 2 to 17. Students had filed an appeal seeking to reschedule the exams to May 8 and 14 as elections will be held in some states on May 7 and 13, 2024.

According to Bar and sofa According to the Supreme Court report headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, changing the exam dates was a disruption to the elaborate arrangements already made for the conduct of the exams and could result in serious injustice to some students to lead.
“Exam scheduling involves policy decisions. But while weighing the importance of voting rights, we have examined the proposition of candidates who will appear for exams and would also have to vote. There are 591 centers and there are no exams on election dates. “If more than 4 lakh students have registered at this stage, any relief would lead to serious prejudice,” the court said.

The court further noted that any order to provide an option to opt out of some exams “could adversely affect students who intend to complete the exams in one sitting.”
The court order read: “We find strength in ICAI's submissions that waiving options would be detrimental to the students taking all papers at once. The COVID arrangements are on a very different footing as it was a public health crisis. So we will do not intervene.
“This is a matter of policy. They (ICAI) say that the exam dates do not fall on the election date. 4 lakh 36,000 students enrolled, 591 centers in over 290 areas. This is no reason for our interference,” CJI Chandrachud said. said.
