BENGALURU: TCS asks selected teams in the company to do this working from the office five days in a week from October 1, ending the flexibility of working in a hybrid model. Sources told TOI that five-day work has not yet been implemented across the company.
The new guidance appears to be a marked shift from the previous stance that asked employees to work from the office at least three times a week, which staff said gave them scope for work-life balance. In October last year, TCS told employees that managers would schedule them for three days a week, which they had to stick to. The company says in the memo that disciplinary proceedings will be initiated if they do not adhere to the schedule.
When TOI contacted TCS about the five-day week norm, the company said, “As we are in the silent period, we cannot comment on your query.” But in response to TOI’s query about returning to office in June quarter, the CEO said K Krithivasan said, “We believe that working from the office is good for the employees, customers and TCS. You only talk about the work output in terms of how they deliver to customers, but how are they guided in terms of culture? How are they guided about how they interact with customers and colleagues.”
