NEW DELHI: The Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH), the body representing all travel industry associations, estimates that tourism will contribute $3 trillion to GDP by 2047 through 10 crore foreign arrivals, 20 billion domestic tourist visits and created 20 crore direct and indirect jobs in the sector. FAITH Chairman Nakul Anand gave this estimate from the industry here on Wednesday, World Tourism Day, during “travel for LiFE”, an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism.
According to Anand, India is one of the few countries that has already made great progress in reforming tourism based on environmental friendliness and sustainability. “The introduction of the G20 Tourism and Sustainable Development Dashboard acts as a great tool to hold the industry accountable and steadfast on the path to achieving its sectoral targets by 2030. The industry has its role to play as it must strike a balance between economic development and ecological conservation,” Anand said.
The ‘Travel for life‘ was attended by Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Tourism and Minister of State for Tourism Vidyavathi and Ministry of Tourism DG Manisha Saxena.
“’Travel for Life’ focuses on the tourism sector, in line with ‘Mission Life’, which promotes sustainability in tourism. The global launch included virtual participation from G20 countries, international organizations and states. Several initiatives will be launched under Travel for LiFE, including a TFL case study competition, a national TFL campaign to clean tourist sites and the recognition of best practice in sustainable rural tourism,” FAITH said in a statement.
