Former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar on Saturday launched an unprecedented attack on Virat Kohli's interview about his critics. It all started when the official broadcasters of IPL showed an interview in which Kohli criticized former players and pundits who “sit in the box talking about the game”. “All the people who talk about strike rates and me not playing well are the ones who talk about these things. For me it's about winning games for the team and there's a reason why you've been doing it for 15 years do, you.” I've done this day in and day out, you've won games for your teams, I'm not entirely sure if you haven't been in that situation yourself you should be sitting in the box talking about the game People can day talking about their assumptions day in and day out, but those who have done it day in and day out know what happens and it's like a muscle memory for me now,” Kohli said after an IPL match in Ahmedabad.
Sunil Gavaskar referred to the interview ahead of the RCB-GT match on Saturday and launched a scathing attack as shown repeatedly. The batting legend felt that such comments were a direct insult to the knowledge of the former cricketers, who work as experts. During Sunil Gavaskar's tirade, Virat Kohli's images were shown in split screen.
“Commentators only asked questions when his strike rate was 118. I'm not too sure. I don't watch too many matches so I don't know what the other commentators have said differently. But if you come and open and then a strike of 118 if you get out in the 14th or the 15th, I mean, if you want applause for that, that's a bit different,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
“But if Star Sports shows the person belittling their own commentators, I'm not sure that's a great thing. So I think Star Sports needs to understand that they've shown it enough times, everyone has gotten the message.”

He added that stars like Kohli should not bother responding to 'outside noise' if they don't care about it.
“All these guys are talking about, 'oh, we don't care about outside noises'. Accha! Then why do you respond to outside noises or whatever it is. We all played a little bit of cricket, not a lot of cricket. We all played a little bit of cricket, not a lot of cricket. We We don't have agendas. We don't necessarily have likes and dislikes, even if we have likes and dislikes, we actually talk about what's happening,” Gavaskar said.

The former Indian cricket team captain even criticized the official broadcasters of IPL for showing Kohli's interview again and again.
“I hope Star Sports realizes that when that segment is shown where the critics are being questioned, the critics are your own commentators. If you show the person who is belittling your own commentators, I'm not sure that's a great thing You have to realize that you have shown it often enough, everyone has understood the message. I would be very disappointed if you showed it again.'
