Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has said it is a commendable achievement on his part to go unbeaten in all three T20Is against Sri Lanka and he will take many positives from it. Shreyas Iyer won the Player of the Series award after scoring 204 runs in the T20I games against Sri Lanka. The right-handed batter had a fifties in all three games of the series. “First of all, I want to cherish this moment, I have achieved a very good total in this T20I series. I want to relax a bit, give myself time and not think too much. I just stay in the moment now. See if you play “The T20I format, if you hit in the top 3 that’s a place where you can pace your innings really well. If you bring the order down you can’t give yourself time and you have to go from ball one.” Iyer said during a virtual press conference.
“Not coming out in all three games is a commendable achievement on my part, I don’t hold any expectations, when you see competition in our team it’s immense. I just want to enjoy every opportunity. I love to finish the games and that’s my mindset. I can’t talk about strengthening my spot, competition is so much, you have to be flexible in hitting at every position,” he added.
Speaking further about the competition within the squad, Shreyas said: “My mentality is to seize as many opportunities as possible and maximize them. I play as I used to, there has been no special preparation. Each player has his own strength and weakness, my mentality is to focus on my strengths. I don’t get caught up when people think a short ball is my weakness.”
India won the third and final T20I match against Sri Lanka by six wickets. For the hosts, Shreyas Iyer shone with an unbeaten 73* while the Men in Blue chased the goal of 146 within 16.5 overs. Previously, Indian bowlers limited Sri Lanka to the score of 146/5 in the 20 overs. For Sri Lanka, Dasun Shanaka played another 74* captaincy to take the visitors to a respectable total as Dinesh Chandimal scored 25. Avesh Khan scalped two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Harshal Patel and Ravi Bishnoi each took one.
“Shanaka played great punches in the last two games, he went over the line with ease. You can’t really blame our bowlers in that particular situation, we come up with our plans, a small mistake can go outside the line. Shanaka took our bowlers,” said Shreyas.
