Jasprit Bumrah, the pacesetter of Mumbai Indians, admitted they were “not good enough” after falling to their sixth consecutive defeat in a nightmarish IPL campaign. On Saturday, they were reeled in by KL Rahul’s masterful hundred as he drove Lucknow Super Giants to an 18-run victory to bring the five-time champion closer to a league-stage elimination.
“We fought. A lot of games will have little luck here or there. But it is the way it is. We don’t shy away from not being good enough and the table doesn’t lie. In the rest of our games, we will try our best and get on the better side,” Bumrah said at the post-match press conference.
Bumrah said the team is still trying to be positive because they “have not lost everything in life”.
“Life has not ended, the sun will rise again tomorrow. This is the game of cricket, right? Someone has to win or lose. We have not lost everything in life, have we? We just lost a cricket match. That is the spirit that is on our team.
“No one is as disappointed as we are. No one from the outside can see how much effort we have put in,” Bumrah said.
Against LSG, nothing went well for MI after they chose to bowl first. Captain Rohit Sharma used six bowlers in the power play, and apart from taking Quinton de Kock’s wicket, none of the bowlers seemed to give any trouble.
Poor field work, one of their worst in a long time, made matters worse for MI.
“Of course it’s disappointing. Nobody wants to lose and we are no different. But it is the way it is. We accept it and take it on the chin that ‘ok, we haven’t been good enough and we came up short in the trot’ .
“We’re not looking at okay, we’re having a crazy run now. We’re looking at what we can control. We’ve fought and made a game out of previous games.

“It’s just that we fall short when there’s been pressure once people start kicking you out. We accept that and go back to the drawing board to keep working hard and come back with the same intensity.
“We will try to do that and when the next game comes up we will look at the season like that,” the India spearhead added. PTI AH AH APA APA
