For the past few years, Royal Challengers Bangalore's slogan Ee Sala Cup Namde (this time the cup is ours) has remained the troll of the social media army. But not anymore after this Sunday! The RCB finally managed to bring home one trophy as they defeated Delhi Capitals in the Women's Premier League (WPL) final by eight wickets here at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. RCB off-spinner Shreyanka Patil, who finished as the highest wicket-taker in WPL with 13 scalps, shared that sentiment and relief after the triumph.
“They keep saying 'Ee sala cup namde' and we understand that. That's it guys, it's for the fans,” Patil said.
She praised RCB women's head coach Luke Williams for keeping calm in the dressing room.
“Day in and day out we worked hard. We felt like family. We didn't know Luke much. During the last match we won against Mumbai, he was in tears. We look forward to continuing this,” she added to it.
Talisman Elysse Perry topped the list of runmakers in this WPL with 347 runs, and the Australian all-rounder said the support for the teams at the event was very encouraging.
“Pretty crazy, to be honest. It's a different level for us; the support for all the teams has been phenomenal and incredible,” she said.
Perry praised spinner Shreyanka and her compatriot Sophie Molineux for changing the color of the match after DC raced to 64 without loss.
“She turned the match upside down. The rest of the spinners supported her.
“Shreyanka is such a young player and she has the world at her feet. It was a special achievement,” said Perry.
