India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) speedster Deepak Chahar spoke about the importance of gaining power and said it helps a fast bowler to gain power and increase pace. Speaking at a CSK event, Chahar said that when an athlete is playing or continuing his rehabilitation, he loses strength, so the season break is the perfect time for a player to recover. “When you're rehabbing – or just playing – you don't gain strength. You lose the strength of your body. So this is the right time for me or for any athlete… if you're a-and – Half a month or two months you have to gain strength. When you gain strength, you also increase your pace,” Chahar told ESPNcricinfo.
He added that when a fast bowler plays continuously, it becomes difficult for him to “do strength training”, for which he loses pace.
Chahar added that he is now doing well in both batting and bowling.
“So yes, when I played in 2018, I bowled almost around 140k. When you play regularly, you don't get the chance to do strength training and your pace goes down. This is the right time for me to increase my pace .In terms of skills, obviously I am doing well in batting and bowling. So I am also trying to develop some strokes with the bat because when you bat at number 8 or number 9, you only get to play three-four balls. You have to so using those balls with different shots,” he added.
Chahar made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the 2016 season, and after that he played in 73 matches in which he took 72 wickets.
In IPL 2023, the 31-year-old took 13 wickets in 10 matches and gave the Chennai-based franchise some major breakthroughs with the new ball. During his five-year stint with CSK, Chahar's performances were consistent.
