Poyyamozhi said that Chief Minister MK Stalin has allocated Rs 9.83 crore under the National Literacy Program in Tamil Nadu for providing basic literacy programs including reading and writing for both children and adults
Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said on Friday that the state would educate 5 lakh individuals under the National Literacy programme.
Poyyamozhi said that Chief Minister MK Stalin has allocated Rs 9.83 crore under the National Literacy Program in Tamil Nadu for providing basic literacy programs including reading and writing for both children and adults.
Speaking at a public event in Erode, he said that last year the state trained 3.15 lakh people under the program and even surpassed the stated target of 3.10 lakh.

He said the target for this year was 4.8 lakh and he was confident that he would meet the target and pass the 5 lakh mark.
The education minister of Tamil Nadu said the program would guarantee 100 percent literacy in the state and there was no need to continue the program after that.
He said that the education department of the school conducted 208 kinds of sports for the students and added that instructions have been given to the education department not to disrupt the sports periods.
The minister also said that raising the literacy program is a social responsibility and added that the state of Tamil Nadu currently has 80 percent literacy and will soon reach 100 percent literacy through the programs implemented by the chief minister.
He also said that the Prime Minister was assured of a drug-free Tamil Nadu and called on all people to join the campaign against the use of drugs.
