The Supreme Court on Friday said it will set up a three-judge bench to hear a plea from Muslim girl students to take exams in government schools in Karnataka while wearing a hijab.
“I will create a bench,” said a bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala when a female lawyer called for urgent plea that girls are about to lose another academic year while the exams are held. in government schools where wearing a headscarf is not allowed.
Initially, the CJI said the case will be heard after the Holi holidays.
The examinations are scheduled after five days, the lawyer said, adding: “They have missed a year. They miss another year.” When told by the council that the matter had been mentioned on the last day before the holiday, the lawyer said it had already been mentioned twice before.
