The decision to reopen the degree colleges will be taken at a later date. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had previously announced the same. The announcement was made after the CM held an important meeting with the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Education, the DGP and other import law officials.
After this meeting with the media, Bommai said: “I appeal to everyone to work together and ensure that there is peace in the colleges. Schools will reopen for classes up to 10th standard from Monday. will reopen later.”
All schools and colleges in Karnataka were closed on February 9 due to the hijab spat that started last month after students at Government Girls PU College in Udupi were barred from entering class for wearing the headscarf. As the girls were later allowed onto campus, protests started from several student groups opposing the hijab in the college and started other parts of the state. The protesters wore saffron scarves to oppose wearing the hijab.

Karnataka High Court is also hearing a petition on this. It will hear the case again on Monday, but has asked groups not to insist on wearing religious clothing and has also expressed concerns about the closure of educational institutions as a result of the incident. The Supreme Court also rejected a plea for transfer of the hearing of the petition from the HC to the highest court. The SC bank declined to intervene in the process, saying that HC heard the case and did not want to interfere in the proceedings of the case.
