National Education Day is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of India’s Prime Minister of Education, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The day is celebrated across the country, on November 11 every year. Today Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders paid tribute to India’s Prime Minister of Education, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, on his 134th birthday.
PM Modi shared two images of the politician with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Prime Minister of the Interior and freedom fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, captioning: “Azad is highly regarded for his academic temperament and intellectual prowess.”
“He remained at the forefront of our freedom movement, working closely with other leading lights. He was also passionate about education.”

Maulana Azad, a scholar and educator, was an important architect of the educational system of independent India. During his tenure, the country was given key education regulatory bodies: the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
