According to the standards, no entity holding an Aadhaar number is allowed to disclose any database or record containing this number unless the number has been appropriately redacted or defaced, said UGC secretary Manish Joshi.
Printing students’ Aadhaar number on diplomas and provisional certificates is not allowed, the University Grants Commission has told varsities. The higher education regulator’s directive comes amid reports that state governments are considering printing full Aadhaar numbers on provisional certificates and degrees issued by universities, for later use in the verification of said documents at the time of recruitment or admission .
“Under current regulations, printing of Aadhaar number on provisional certificates and degrees is not allowed,” reads the official message.
Under the standards, no entity holding an Aadhaar number is allowed to disclose any database or record containing the same unless the number has been appropriately redacted or defaced, UGC Secretary Manish Joshi said in a letter to the varsities. Printing of Aadhaar numbers on diplomas and provisional certificates is not allowed. The higher education institutions must strictly comply with the rules and regulations of UIDAI, he added.
