Women in corporate leadership roles are better at supporting employees emotionally, claims a recently published study. The Women in the Workplace 2021 report states that female managers outperform men in similar positions in leadership positions. The report says that during COVID-19, when workers around the world were under tremendous stress, employees of organizations with female managers felt much more supported by their managers.
It said female managers are taking more consistent action to promote employee wellbeing, including checking in with their team members, helping them manage their workload and providing support to team members dealing with burnout or navigating work life challenges. .

The report also states that compared to men at their level, female leaders are up to twice as likely to spend time on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) that falls outside their formal job responsibilities, such as supporting employee resource groups, organizing events. and recruiting employees from underrepresented groups. They are also more likely than men to take allied actions, such as mentoring women of color, advocating for new opportunities for them, and actively addressing discrimination.
“When managers support employee wellbeing, employees are happier, less burned out and less likely to consider leaving. The same goes for employees who have strong allies and believe that DEI is a high priority for their business,” the report said.
The Women in the Workplace 2021 report revealed that female managers have supported employee wellbeing at a faster rate than their male counterparts during the pandemic.
Speaking of the importance of managers, according to the study, managers are at the forefront of employees’ everyday experiences, meaning their actions have a significant impact on employee burnout and well-being. “Losing these women can erode the social fabric of an organization, further reinforcing the cycle of grief and burnout that companies have struggled since the start of the pandemic,” the report reads.
