A snake catcher in Queensland, Australia, quickly responded to a homeowner's emergency call after discovering the presence of the world's second most venomous snake hiding among clothing in a bedroom.
Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 shared a video on Facebook showing the encounter between snake catcher Daniel Rumsey and a juvenile eastern brown snake nestled among laundry in the resident's bedroom.
In the footage, Rumsey notes, “Literally trying to hide in the underwear, on the second floor, is the second most venomous snake in the world.”
Out of gratitude, the resident of the bedroom commented on the post, acknowledging the snake catcher's intervention that may have prevented a dangerous situation. She said: 'Luckily he stuck his head under the roommate's door; otherwise he would have gone unnoticed and I might have had a snack when I went to bed.”
After capture, the snake was safely relocated to a wilderness area, away from residential areas.
While snake encounters are not unheard of within Australian households, they remain relatively rare, especially in urban environments. Such incidents usually occur when snakes seek food or shelter in residential structures. The diverse terrains and climates across Australia play a role in the prevalence and distribution of snakes, with certain habitats carrying a greater chance of encounters than others.
