Firefighters successfully rescued a cat that fell 100 feet down a mine shaft near his home, all thanks to the help of the family’s loyal dog, Daisy. Mowgli, who went missing on October 20, left owner Michele Rose, based in south-east Cornwall, feeling like hope was disappearing.
However, her mood was lifted when she saw Daisy exhibiting panicky behavior as she darted in and out of the woods around their Harrowbarrow home. Ultimately, it was Daisy’s actions that led to the rescue of their feline companion, turning the tide of their search.
According to the BBC, Daisy guided Mrs. Rose along a footpath to the old Prince of Wales mine workings before stopping next to the mine shaft.
“Daisy is a superstar; she’s an amazing dog. Without Daisy, Mowgli could still be out there, that’s for sure,” Ms Rose said.
“She was persistent in forcing me to follow her; it was wonderful.”
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) and Cornwall Fire and Rescue were called, but it was “too dark” to enter the mineshaft on the first night, the RSPCA said.
The next morning, the team, led by RSPCA animal rescue officer Stephen Findlow, spotted Mowgli, who was lying 30 meters below but remarkably unharmed, and he was brought to safety, the news portal said.
