A restaurant in Jordan offers its customers the opportunity to take a nap after eating Mansaf, the country’s national dish. Arabic news. Mansaf is considered by many to be ‘a heavy meal’ and causes drowsiness due to its high fat ingredients. That is why the Muab restaurant in the Jordanian capital Amman has placed beds so that customers can sleep after eating the dish. Until now, Mansaf lovers have been forced to eat the dish only at home, where they can take a nap.
“The idea of putting beds in the restaurant started as a joke and decoration to represent the drowsiness experienced by Mansaf eaters after having the high-fat meal,” Musab Mubeideen, son of the restaurant’s owner, told me. Arabic news.
He said some customers had asked restaurant staff to “set up beds” because they felt drowsy after eating the dish.
“So we took beds and put them in a separate area of the restaurant. Customers now actually use them for a quick nap after having Mansaf,” Mr Mobeideen added.
He said Mansaf is a fat-laden meal cooked with lamb, rice and jameed (ghee). “These ingredients together are just a recipe for drowsiness and total fatigue.”
The bedroom prepared by the restaurant is air-conditioned and also quiet, giving Mansaf lovers a good opportunity to sleep, an outlet said.
Named after the ancient kingdom of Moab in Jordan’s southern city of Karak, the restaurant serves only Mansaf.
