Leopards are wild animals and live in their natural habitat in forests. However, in a sad situation today, many of these big cats are seen on the streets, in villages and even around tourist spots. These growing incidents of these wild animals roaming the streets have created fear in people’s minds. In a shocking incident, a leopard pounced on a sleeping dog in Maharashtra. The now-viral video has surprised many on the internet and raised questions about the common appearances of animals in urban areas.
The video was shared by user Neha Panchamiya on Twitter. The CCTV footage shows a man sleeping on a camp bed, while a stray dog sleeps next to him on the road with a few trucks lined up. A few minutes later, we see a leopard enter the scene and take a walk. Later in the video, the leopard moves to the area where two drums are kept and sees a dog sleeping there. He picks up the dog and runs off to leave the place. The man realizes something is unusual as soon as the dog starts barking. He is left shocked after witnessing the leopard running with the dog in its mouth.

“What leopards thrive on in agricultural landscapes of Western Maharashtra and bring them SO close to humans = safe shelter in dense sugar cane fields, banana plantations etc. and stray dogs as a common source of food. This leopard knew exactly what he was looking for Although the man’s muffled response cracked me up for a minute, I can’t imagine the shock he must have felt when he realized what a close encounter he just had!Source: CCTV footage – Junnar, namely WhatsApp,” the post’s caption reads.

“A leopard’s equivalent of human migration from rural to urban areas. Leopards, being highly adaptable, may be able to cope with it “better” than other animals such as elephants, wolves, etc. I wish India’s wildlife have better times with more greenery and corridors for exercise,” said one user.
“His fuses blew after he knew what happened,” said another user.
A third person said, “I’ve seen this many times in my childhood. Instead of dogs, they brought goats from our village.”
