People in Las Vegas, United States, were perplexed when they saw red and white lights shining in the night sky. User Brett Feinstein took to Twitter and shared a video of the incident, writing, “There is now a #ufo over Sapphire Las Vegas!”
From the parking lot of a Las Vegas club, Mr. Feinstein what appeared to be groups of white and red lights shining in the clouds. “Honestly, this is really strange. I mean, we’re here every night. I’ve never seen anything like it,” someone can be heard saying in the background of the video.

People who recorded the event speculated that it was a UFO – an unidentified flying object – hovering around the club. In the comments section of the posts, internet users also agreed that it was indeed a UFO.
“Definitely wild because it bounces the light when it hits it! That’s definitely something up there,” one Twitter user wrote. “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, unless you see a UFO you don’t stay in Vegas,” another jokingly added.
A third user commented, “There’s a little bit of light that flashes (in response?) every time the floodlights cross the center. Great shot!! Mega weird,” while a fourth user added, “I imagine this could be drones could be? However, the elongated shapes are super bizarre.”
However, according to The hill, experts explained that the strange lights were probably just a weather phenomenon. A National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologist in Las Vegas said that since the lights in the clouds didn’t seem to move and the temperature in the clouds was cold enough, it’s likely that what people were seeing was a phenomenon known as “pillars of light”.

“Tall pillars of multi-colored light shining across the sky seem like the perfect backdrop for an impending alien invasion, but in reality, pillars of light are a common effect found around the world,” the NWS explains on its website.
“They come from above – not aliens, but small ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. Ice is very thin, in the form of plates with hexagonal faces. When ice floats down through the air, it falls almost horizontally. At the top and the bottom are the faces with more surface area. Ice is very reflective, so when light hits those wider faces, it bounces around and bounces off more ice crystals. That means we’re floating these vertically stacked mirrors in the atmosphere,” it added up to it.
So what people saw in Las Vegas last week was just the dazzling light of the city refracted by weather activity in the sky.
