A heartwarming video has captured the moment when the last runner in the London Marathon crossed the finish line to cheers and applause. According to BBCthe runner has been identified as Tom Durnin, who completed the 42 km (26.2 mi) race in 8 hours, 10 minutes and 58 seconds.
The official Twitter account for the event shared the inspiring video, writing: ”One of the greatest moments of any London Marathon – the 2023 finisher. We are in awe of your determination to finish what you started. ”

The video shows the exhausted runner stumbling across the finish line, amid a rapturous and enthusiastic welcome from the crowd that stayed until the end of the event. Someone off-camera can be heard saying, ”Good job, mate! You did it,” as Mr. Durnin posed for photos.
Internet users praised his grueling effort and were delighted to see him finish the race. One user wrote: ”Well done to this man. He wasn’t the last, he beat everyone who’s never run a marathon, including me. Hats off to him!”
Another commented: “An absolute hero! What strength of character, perseverance and determination! Phenomenal.” A third said, “I love that there is still a crowd to cheer him home. Congratulations sir. Truly inspiring. We can’t all be Mo Farrah, but everyone can join in and give their best. ”
A fourth added: ”INCREDIBLE!! A way to finish what you started! This gives me chills.” A fifth said: “Real tears watching this – the determination is outstanding!!! Huge congratulations to you – officially a marathon runner!!”
Mr Durnin, in particular, raised money for the Bone Cancer Research Trust charity. “Here we go, I have accepted the London Marathon 2023 challenge to raise essential funds for The Bone Cancer Research Trust through Freddies Future. I’m training hard right now and pushing myself through each session to get as fit as possible, which isn’t usually my thing, I’ll be honest,” reads a comment on the campaign page.
