Eight people have been killed in a fire at a chemical plant in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district. Police and fire brigade rushed to the scene and rescue operations are underway.
The accident happened after a boiler burst at an industrial facility in Dhaulana, about 60 kilometers from New Delhi, police spokesman Surendra Singh told Reuters.
Some other workers were injured in the explosion that took place at the factory in the Dholana area of the district.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, his office said in a tweet in Hindi.
“The Prime Minister has instructed district officials to go to the scene and oversee rescue and relief efforts and provide all possible assistance to the victims and their families,” the CM’s office tweeted.
